Amy Hooper: Fascinating Solution to a 32-Year-Old Murder

They say that justice delayed is justice denied. While that may be true, delayed justice is better than none. In this blog, I present the case of Amy Hooper. Amy was found murdered in 1992, but her case remained unsolved until recently. This is an old case with a new (and developing) angle.

Amy Hooper

Amy Hooper was 20 years old in the spring of 1992. She worked at Bermans Leather in the now-defunct Westland Mall in Columbus, Ohio. On March 9, she failed to show up for work. Her parents went looking for her and found her body in her Lincoln Village apartment. She was nude, lying on yer back with her hands lightly bound. Her killer had beaten and stabbed her to death.

Detectives found a knife at the murder scene, along with a necklace that Amy’s roommate said she had never seen before.

Police theorized that Amy knew her attacker. Since there was no sign of forced entry, it was logical to conclude that she had let her assailant in. At the time, no one could figure out who might have killed the young woman.

A Break in the Amy Hooper Case

After more than 30 years, a Franklin County, Ohio, grand jury indicted a suspect for murder in Amy Hooper’s death on December 17, 2024. He is Bruce Edward Daniels, 57, now living in Tumwater, Washington, a suburb of the state capital of Olympia.

Jail records show that police arrested Daniels on December 5 on a weapons charge. A search of his home turned up a 9 mm handgun illegally in his possession.

Police developed Daniels as a person of interest, then charged him with murder after DNA from an item he discarded matched DNA retrieved from Hooper’s body.

So far, it is unclear how Hooper and Daniels knew each other or what kind of relationship, if any, the two had.
